Win a trip to Nepal with Capital Cause

The team behind Capital Cause Charitable Trust are pushing past Wellington’s city limits and taking their unique spin on charity engagement global.

This winter the team have got their sights set on the Orphan Help Centre in Nepal and created a quirky online campaign to connect users of social networking sites with the cause. Using only free online tools Capital Cause is raising funds from donors living anywhere in the world and offering a trip to Nepal as a prize for participation.

Using Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, YouTube, the Capital Cause webpage and online donation site Givealittle the ‘Win a trip to Nepal with Capital Cause’ campaign is based on the simple premise ‘guess the number of jelly beans in the jar’.

With the twist being to guess the weight of the backpack filled with Icebreaker clothing, camping and mountaineering equipment lent by Bivouac Wellington and a random amount of the iconic New Zealand sweet Minties.

‘During our last planning session we decided to undertake at least one of our planned campaigns completely online. This method allows us to reach a much wider audience so it is important to us that the cause and the prize are internationally relevant.’ said trustee Lee Hales.

Entry is simple, view the backpack photos and make a donation then post the donation receipt number and weight guess to the Facebook group page.

‘We selected the Orphan Help Centre as the recipient after reading about the great work of founder Auckland based Amanda Kyne. The Centre is a registered charity with the New Zealand Charities Commission and we were really impressed with how Amanda and the team run such a great home with very little public profile.’

The campaign runs until 31 July 2009, when the backpack will be weighed at Wellington Airport and the correct or closest guess will win the prize pack.

Prize pack includes; return flights to Nepal from any location (max value NZ$2,000), an Intrepid Travel Annapurna Sanctuary trip and Icebreaker clothing. The winner will also visit the Orphan Help Centre.
